Master of Music, Flute Performance University of Texas at Austin
BM, Flute Performance Eastern Michigan University
I'm a creative and motivated educator who loves sharing my passion for music with my students. I hold degrees in music performance from Eastern Michigan University and the University of Texas at Austin. I've been teaching privately and in the public school system in Austin for 7 years. Performing and teaching are my life's work and sharing the experiences I've had with my students helps them realize how music can positively impact their life.
I have 20 years experience performing and boast a wide variety of musical styles including classical, scottish, rock, and pop. I have been teaching privately for 8 years, beginners through adults.
I believe that it is important to assess the needs and goals of each student as a creative individual. My goal as an educator is to develop a unique style and approach molded by each student in order to the gain the most success. Lessons are not one-size-fits-all and this is reflected in my teaching style. For education to be truly effective it must be engaging and challenging and I motivate every student to take responsibility for their own learning. Ultimately I strive to teach my students the confidence they need in order to problem solve, learn independently, think creatively, and above all else, develop a deep and life-long love for music.
I employ a practical beginning to lessons which at first focuses on flute basics and music theory, and moves forward through etude and lesson books depending on the skill of the student. I am creative and spontaneous while still mainting continuity of lesson materials from week to week.
