I am a performing guitarist and have been playing in the Peoria area for the past 5 years. I started playing guitar when I was around 12 years old. I have been in two different bands in the Peoria area that have played live shows. I am 24 years old and have my Associates Degree in Multimedia from ICC. I love playing music and recording my songs for YouTube. I Have recently been teaching guitar to children to the Salvation Army. I love jamming with my brothers and playing any type of music! I would love to be your new guitar instructor!
I started playing guitar when I was around 12 years old. My brother started teaching me originally. Soon afterwards I started taking lessons with an instructor and haven't looked back ever since. Playing guitar and songwriting has become my favorite way of expressing myself. Around the age of 16 I formed a punk band with some of my friends and we eventually started playing shows around the Peoria area. A few years later I started a two piece band with a friend of mine and we also played shows around the Peoria area. I love writing songs and singing as well. It is my favorite way to be creative!
My method of teaching involves first exploring where my students interests are. I think it is important to discuss and examine why it is you want to learn to play guitar in the first place! For brand new beginners I would typically start by learning various beginner chords. The next step would be to practice scales and different techniques. From there I think the most important piece would be to identify a song or songs that my student would like to learn and try to take a whack at learning it. I have different guitar books including The Beatles complete chord songbook which I think are invaluable resources.
I think the most important thing to identify is the style and type of music that my student would like to be able to play. Think of your favorite artist currently. What makes them so special or unique? Identifying something like that is what will help me to better understand what teaching style is going to be most effective for you! I love seeing students progress and get past the beginner phase into more complex play styles. I think that most people quit guitar after the first week because of finger pain. It is important to be as encouraging as possible because it is definitely very hard to get past this at first.
