ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

BM, Howard University, Music Education, Classical Trombone (minor) Instrumental Music/ PreK-12 Grade Level Certification, District of Columbia Office of the Superintendent of Education

Overview:

I am a young, enthusiastic music educator dedicated to providing positive musical experiences to every student I encounter. Earlier this year, I graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education with minors in secondary education and classical trombone performance. While in college, I performed in quite a few ensembles including the Howard University concert band, jazz ensemble, and the HU SHOWTIME Marching Band. I was in all of these ensembles for four years.

EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience began during my first year of college in 2014. While visiting home during the Holidays, I began giving private lessons. Along with my education classes, I completed several practicums as a well as a 12 week student teaching program. Ultimately, my goal is to instill music as an intricate part of all of my students' lives. It is important for students to form an appreciation for music while also creating their own identity in the art. Music education should strive to create musicians in each child and equip them with the abilities to properly identify, evaluate, and perform music at whatever level they may be at.

METHODS USED

I want my students to have a very strong foundation in all musical elements while still being able to relate and experiences music in their own way. For beginning students, I would definitely start them in a beginning method book whether it be Essential Elements or Standard of Excellence. It is important for every student to have a basic grasp of all the musical elements- rhythm, melody, harmony, form, and expression. I keep my lessons very organized, engaging, and informative, no matter the age.

LESSON STYLE

Different learning styles, whether it be visual, aural, verbal, or physical, are present in all classrooms. Unfortunately, teachers do not always cater to every students needs. I believe that differentiate should be a huge part of every learning environment and plan to include multiple learning styles in my teaching environment to best provide for the student. I firmly believe that every student has the ability to find and feed their creative through any art form. Figuring the best way to learn this information is an essential part of the battle.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
