Hi! I’m Kyla G. and I have been studying the performing arts since I was four years old. I am a singer, pianist, violinist, and actress, and I currently offer private virtual violin, viola, piano, and voice lessons. I have a BA in Music and BA in Musical Theatre from Columbia College Chicago. I have had so many wonderful opportunities to share the knowledge that I have gained throughout all my time of being a performing artist. I am a signed artist with Boosted Entertainment, and I am a Producer for the group Musicality, semi-finalists on AGT season 11. Not only do I assist in creating and directing music videos and original music for the group, but I also get to perform at incredible events and venues with them: UNICEF Won't Stop (with Jordin Sparks), Lollapalooza, KultureBall 2019 with Marc Martel, the Rosemont Theatre, TEDx with Ari Afsar and Miguel Cervantes (Chi-Hamilton Stars), and McDonald’s WWC (opening for Imagine Dragons, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, and Bruno Mars). I have been in numerous music videos with the group and have led recording sessions. A few videos I have worked on ("This Is Me" and "From Now On") have even gained several million views! I have had the honor to star in the film "First String" as Rebecca Carlisle, and I am reprising my role in the sequel. I have had so many wondrous opportunities to share my craft with others, and I am enthusiastic about sharing even more through teaching and performing.
I am a singer-songwriter, music educator, and actress from Chicago! I have always incorporated music into my life. My parents put me into violin and piano lessons when I was only four years old! When I was about twelve, I began to do musical theatre and then joined the award-winning group Musicality in high school. Throughout my time at Musicality, I grew from alternate, to member, to staff member, to associate director, and now to producer. I have learned so much about education and performance through Musicality. In 2017, I began to teach private lessons and have been ever since!
My methods depend on my students' ages, experience, and instruments. I incorporate books from Full Voice, Suzuki, Schradiek, Piano Pronto, Bastien, and more! I ensure that my students are getting the essential education that will help them grow and succeed as a musician. In addition to teaching exercises, technic, warmups, scales, chords, arpeggios (and more), I also ensure that students are applying these things to pieces that are important to learn through lesson books and with songs that my students want to learn. It is important that we are doing things to accomplish your personal goals as well, so if there is a specific piece, book, or exercise you want to include, we will do it!
Every student progresses at their own pace. So many factors will determine progress such as age, experience, instrument, and learning style. I do what is necessary to adapt to these different things to ensure my students are learning what is necessary, progressing, and still having fun all at the same time! I also ensure to incorporate music theory as part of my course as well so students are as well-rounded as possible. Although we may spend weeks, or even months at a time on a piece, this doesn't necessarily mean that we are progressing slowly! This means that we are not rushing through pieces just to get through them, but that we are learning the piece properly and making sure that we are proficient with the piece!
