I have a Masters and Bachelor degree, both in music education, and I have been playing saxophone for 16 years. I have substitute taught in Madison County, KY and recently completed my enlistment in the United States Marine Corps. I served as a music in Camp Pendleton, CA. I look forward to helping students perform in music and learning how to reach goals they want to obtain.
My teaching experience includes student teaching in college, for a semester, and substitute teaching for 16 months. While I was in the Marine Corps I would give lessons to students from different high schools when going on recruiting tours. I am eager to teach students again in Kentucky, and want to serve the community as well.
For beginning students I believe a foundation in learning the notes on the instrument is important, as well as matching up those notes to the paper. A solid theory application is appropriate. For intermediate and advanced level students developing a style and interpretation of music is how to grow exponentially. I focus on building rapport with all students, but with advanced it is up to them to grow in musicianship. I will reflect on each lesson and focus on making one better.
I believe students will perform how teachers educate them, and I also believe in developing ones own style. Students need to understand how to get to a certain level due to practice and patience. Discipline and a positive mindset will help achieve goals. I believe advising students on how to focus and practice is the key to potential.
