Hi! My name is Kyra. I am a pianist-composer with a deep love of performing, accompanying, and composing, as well as a desire to help each student progress and find joy in the journey! I began my college degree studying Piano Performance at Brigham Young University and finished in 2023 with a degree in Commercial Music. I have been teaching piano since high school, and have always loved the opportunities I have to share my knowledge with my students. Together, we can reach your goals one by one and help you become the musician you want to be!
I have been teaching since high school, and have taught students of all ages, ranging from age 5 to adults. I have had multiple opportunities to perform and accompany for various groups within my education at BYU, and have composed many pieces for piano, orchestra, and small groups. My students tend to progress very quickly and have a strong understanding of how to practice and what tools they can call on to reach their individual goals. I encourage my students to participate in performance classes, recitals, and competitions applicable to each individual's goals. I welcome all students of any age!
I employ methods from the Peery Piano Academy by Christie Skousen, as well as added techniques I have found to be most helpful. I utilize fun games, flashcards, and a rewards system that encourages my students to stay focused on the task at hand while learning and retaining new information. I keep an organized studio and adjust my teaching to each student according to age, goals, and skill level. I tend to bounce between different materials depending on the need of the student and have used Faber & Faber, Alfred, and Keith Snell.
In my studio, students and their needs and concerns are most important. I love to see students grow in confidence and progress under my guidance. I approach my piano teaching with a calm and patient attitude. I believe piano is best learned in an encouraging and positive environment. I try to help students see how and why they are progressing as well as communicate clearly how and why the curriculum helps them to reach their goals. My goal is satisfaction in the journey as well as the destination.
