Member of the Grammy Award winning Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra.
Currently Faculty at New Jersey City University.
I have been teaching for 10 years now and have a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with anyone interested in learning music. I graduated in 2011 with a BA in music education from Brooklyn College, and recently graduated with a MA in Jazz Performance in 2020 from New Jersey City University. I perform regularly in the New York City music scene, performing with such ensembles/musicians like the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Mingus Big Band, Shag Horns, Eddie Palmieri, James Jabbo Ware, and Adam O'Farrill. I have played in such venues/festivals such as the Newport Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Spoleto Festival, Luminato Festival, the Apollo Theatre, and Birdland. I have a professional audio setup that I use to teach, and follow up all lessons with emails detailing everything we've worked on in our lesson.
I love everything about music but my true passion for it lies within teaching. Seeing a student get excited about learning is what I live for and is what I strive to bring into every teaching session I do. Music can be very technical and hard to understand which is why it's my top priority to make sure everything I teach is fun and easy to understand for everyone. I've been teaching one-on-one lessons for 10 years, for saxophone, flute, and clarinet, of all levels. I worked at the Dorothy Delson Kuhn Music Institute at the Jewish Community Center for 5 years teaching flute and Clarinet. I have worked as head teacher for the Afro Latin Jazz Alliance for 3 years, teaching saxophone as well running the program at a particular school. in 2020 I joined the faculty at New Jersey City University, teaching saxophone as well as running a jazz combo.
My methods are based on what each student wishes to accomplish with these lessons. I have a wide variety of exercises/books/recordings that are guided to help the student reach their maximum potential. In particular, I specifically focus on sound, technique, reading, simulating performance scenarios, school auditions, recitals, and improvisation. I approach all these topics with care so that the student learns the most in a stress free environment. The goal is always to make sure the student gets the most out of our time together!
I'm all about bringing positive vibes into what I teach! I love music and I bring that love into everything I teach. My goal is to always make sure the student feels comfortable, feels heard, and feels prepared for anything I may throw at them. Music is a living experience and I believe as a teacher you need to bring that energy every time you teach. I make sure every student feels accomplished from everything I ask of them, I'm considerate in my instruction, and I make sure every assignment I give is feasible for the student's level. What I give to my students is the tools to be a musician in any music setting possible and succeed!
