I have a violin performance degree and long term Suzuki teacher training from Northern Arizona University. My passion is teaching the joy of music! I am most qualified to teach violin and viola, but I am also comfortable teaching beginning piano. Besides my Suzuki training, which makes me an ideal teacher for young children, I love in working with adults and teaching all styles of music including fiddle. I specialize in audition prep and orchestra repertoire and I enjoy working with all ages and levels. I have 20 plus years experience teaching violin. 7 years of that experience is online where I have taught private violin lessons to all ages and levels as well as online group classes with as many as 30 students.
I taught violin with the Northern Arizona University Preparatory School for 4 years. I was Artistic Director and Violin Teacher with Lighthouse Suzuki Strings Inc. in Florida for 11 years where I directed the string orchestra, coached string ensembles and had 50 private students. 6 years ago I moved to Colorado where I began my online studio. I teach 100% online using Zoom Meetings. I have an established online studio with a professional set up and very fast, reliable internet. I am proficient in teaching over zoom
Every student is unique so I adjust my teaching style and methods/music taught to the needs of the student. I love the Suzuki Method for young students and adults alike. But I also refer to several fiddle methods including Craig Duncan's books, "American Fiddle Method" and "Kid Fiddle" for students who wish to learn fiddle tunes. I use the I Can Read Music books by Joanne Martin for teaching note reading. I assign Etudes and Exercises for building good technique and all of my students play scales!
I meet the student where they are. I am flexible in my style when teaching and if something isn't clicking or working, I try something else. I believe that my student and I are a team! I strive to make learning this very difficult instrument fun and enjoyable. I provide recordings and videos, practice charts and other practice aids to build a platform for the most success. My students send me recordings of their practice assignments between lessons to receive feedback. And I supplement our regular work with supplemental music like holiday pieces or simply a favorite song!
