I have been a musician since I can remember. I come from a musical family all multi instrumentalists. I received my BA Music from San Diego State University and studied as a piano major and was a member of the SDSU Symphony Orchestra playing violin. While at Grossmont High School, I played clarinet and mallets in marching band and was in the symphonic band and orchestra; I sang alto in the award winning choir.
My goal as a music teacher is to provide music to as many individuals as possible. One of my greatest joys is witnessing the moment of musical understanding from students.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching music since about 1999 and during that time have had students of different ages and walks of life. I tailor each lesson according to the student's abilities or interests, and emphasize learning proper practicing techniques, as well as music theory. Lessons should be fun and use different methods or games to make the time enjoyable. As a multi instrumentalist, I've been able to see music instruction through several lenses which is useful in drawing a musical picture for students. It is encouraging to see my students' faces and eyes light up when they have reached a musical goal. It is a delight to have students of all ages and it is a joy to encourage them to succeed throughout their musical journey.
METHODS USED
For beginning students I use different method books and supplemental resources depending on the instrument being taught. It is important to discover each student's interests and am always searching for creative ways to keep the student engaged and fun, no matter the ability level.
Together with the following method books, I create worksheets and use computer games to make llearning more enjoyable.
Bastien piano courses; Hal Lenoard piano; Snell piano method; Dozen a Day piano exercises; Suzuki violin; Klose-Prescott and Lazarus clarinet.
LESSON STYLE
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. Therefore, it is important that each student progress at his or her own pace. It is essential to set a realistic course for my students at each lesson. Each lesson begins with a by review of the prior assignments and at that time I provide constructive ideas for improvement. I find it very important to encourage each student and acknowledge each challenge met. This is an ideal way to build the student's self-confidence making students eager to learn more.

My son and I love Mrs. Laura R. She enjoys teaching kids and spending time with kids while my son enjoys learning. He is getting better since he seen her. Is there anything else better than finding the good teacher for our kids? I feel I am a winner!

Laura is a very good teacher. I really like her pace of teaching. It's not too slow or too fast, it's just right.
