2008 - Mannes College of Music, Precollege completion
I'm a voice and violin teacher who loves teaching music! I especially like working with children. In 2012, I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Professional Music. I also studied at Mannes Pre-college in Manhattan, New York from 2003 to 2008. I've had the opportunity to work with some of the best vocalists in the music industry, including the group "Soul for Real." I've also worked with numerous producers of Mary J. Blige, Angie Stone and KC and Jojo, just to name a few. I've been playing violin since the age of 3, and have had the opportunity of being concert mistress in multiple Northern Regional festivals. I've also done All-State and All-Eastern festivals.
I started teaching about 3 years ago, and have been consistently going to various students' homes for lessons, voice and violin alike. I have worked with all ages, from 5 years old to over 60 years old. Making sure my students constantly practice is definitely one of my key points I focus on. I push them to take on challenges they thought might not have been possible for them to achieve. I love to see their growth, week after week. I have taught a variety of vocal genres, including R&B, pop, and musical theater. I am mainly a classical violin instructor, but I am also able to teach hip-hop and pop, as I have an electric violin as well. I'm always looking to bring on new students of all levels and ages!
For all of my students, I let them pick a song (vocal) or piece (violin) that they would like to sing or play. This way I can analyze what level they are on. For my voice students, I start with vocal warm-up exercises of the different vowels. It helps me to understand their range as well as tone of voice.
For my violin students, I usually stick with the Suzuki Method, or Essential Elements books, if they are in the more beginning stages. I also teach them the correct hand position and body posture for holding the violin, as well as how to hold the bow correctly.
I strive to make my lessons fun! Learning to do something you love should be fun. I enjoy teaching students especially when they have a strong passion for what they are doing. I encourage them to practice daily, if nothing else. I always say, even if it's only 10 minutes a day, that's better than 30 minutes only one day of the week! Even if you are very talented, you still must practice to get better. I make it my business to point out the strong points of my students, and at the same time show them where they can use improvement.
