I am a college student, but I love to teach and play piano. I've been playing for a little over 13 years, and have been teaching since I graduated high school. Music has played such a big role in my life, and I would love to make it apart of other people's lives as well. I have performed every winter and spring and even in front of my schoolmates since first grade, so I have a lot of practice in performances. I love playing pop, musicals, and writing my own music! I would love to teach people with the same interests and would even like to teach music composition if you are interested.
I have been officially teaching for about a year through a private music studio that I used to go to, but I also helped teach my siblings while they took piano as well. I have taught students from ages 4 to college and above. I don't mind teaching as long as you actually want to learn. I like making lessons fun and relatable, so I tend to let the students pick out what kind of music they would like to play. I encourage my students to play from their heart, and although I do focus a lot on technique, I also want them to enjoy playing, and love music as much as I do!
When teaching beginning students, I focus a lot of the technique that will be needed to play once they get more expirenced. Once they have that down, I start letting them chose what kind of music they would like to know how to play. I was trained in both classical and modern music, so anyway that the student may want to go I would be happy to help them learn. I also teach music theory during my lessons, because it makes learning the piano and why we do certain things, easier to grasp. I like to make sure that my students are actually learning music, rather than just being robotic with it.
Speaking as a person who always likes a challenge, I am ready to challenge my students to do their absolute best! My teaching style is very self paces, but challenging. I love to challenge my students to see how much they improve, and watching them grow is so amazing. I don't like students knocking themselves down with negative comments or thinking, so I'm always right there with them, helping them along the way. Encouraging them to take the next step and give music another chance. I can also work with each student to figure out which teaching style fits them the best so that they can achieve great things, and not feel pressured.
