I am a performer and educator who is passionate about instilling a life-long love of music in my students! I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in commercial violin performance from Belmont University in 2021. Since, I have been writing/gigging/and recording with my own band called Northern Nightingale and playing with various artists in the Nashville area. I specialize in fiddle music, specifically celtic style, but have experience performing and teaching various styles including classical, old time, bluegrass, and jazz.
I have been teaching private violin and voice lessons off and on since my first year of college. I also teach elementary general music part time and have taught as a third grade teacher, so I have a wide variety of teaching experience that helps me tailor my teaching style to the specific needs of your students. I have taught all ages and skill levels and am also qualified to teach beginner piano, beginner guitar, ukulele, and songwriting.
For beginners, I typically start students off with the suzuki books to build technique, but I teach them from the classical perspective rather than the suzuki method. With intermediate and advanced students, i will introduce solo repertoire appropriate for recital performance and/or a commercial piece (fiddle tunes, pop songs, etc) that the student is interested in learning. Fiddle is my specialty, but I also teach classical violin and even my fiddle students will learn classical technique. When teaching fiddle tunes, the student will learn completely by ear.
My teaching style is completely dependent on the needs and goals of the student. However, the structure of all my lessons are similar. Half of each lesson will be dedicated to technique and half of the lesson will be dedicated to a piece/tune that the student has chosen and wants to work on. I structure my lessons this way so that way the student has agency in their own learning and can learn the things they want to learn, while also building a strong technical foundation
