ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

BM in Music Performance, McNally Smith College of Music

Overview:
I am motivated to foster a fun lesson environemnt.  I loved lessons growing up, and now enjoy the joys of teaching all ages. At my home studio, I teach voice piano and acting lessons to students of all ages. The Twin Cities fasters a rich and diverse musical community. I am happily performing locally with five different groups including two corporate bands, a jazz band, a funk group, an acoustic duo, and an original project. I enjoy all styles of music and have taught people as diverse as rappers to classical singers. On keys, I am trained classically but also know how to teach you to read charts.
EXPERIENCE
I graduated from McNally Smith College of Music magna cum laude in 2011 with a bachelors in vocal performance. I played everywhere from Duluth. Minnesota to Lima, Peru: sharing the stage with artists as diverse as Andres Prado and Judi Donaghy. In addition to my McNally Smith Degree, I received master classes from Bobby McFerrin and the New York Voices. Passionate about giving back to the community, I instructed voice and piano students at the Urban Hub, a community center for inner city youth in Minneapolis MN. I spent the last 6 months of 2011 as an instructor at Jazz Jaus in Lima, Peru. I taught music theory, history, songwriting, and applied voice at ex'treme Institute by Nelly in St. Louis, MO for 3 years. I've recently moved back to the Twin Cities to perform and teach.
METHODS USED
Methods change depending on a student's level.  I want a beginner to feel completely comfortable being a beginner.  We start with the basics and I adjust material to personal levels of development.  If you have previous experience, we will use the first lesson to assess technique and repetorie and advance from there.  I am aware of several piano workbooks that take you from beginner to level four, these are not always the best for every student. I like to pick and choose from different workbooks while maintaining the integrity of technique, theory, and performance repertoire.
LESSON STYLE
Every student has an experience unique to themselves. I am strict about meeting the goals developed by each student. However, the learning process is highly individual. You will learn at a pace and with a curriculum we develop to best suit your learning style, musical preference, and goals. Based on these goals, I will figure out the best method of incorporating theory, technique, and improvisation. I like to work on a piece of repertoire and tell we have perfected whatever the main goal of the piece is. This could take 2 to 5 lessons per piece.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
