I am a recent graduate of the Monclair State University Music Education Master's program. I also graduated from William Paterson University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. My primary instrument is the violin. My main secondary instrument is the piano. I currently perform with the Adelphi Orchestra. I have taught in the New Jersey public school system. I have been teaching private piano and violin lessons for about 6 years.
I began teaching private music lessons about 10 years ago, but have been consistently teaching for the part six years. I welcome all ages and abilities.
For young piano students, I use John Thompson's Easiest Piano Course and A Dozen a Day. For adults, I like to use Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course for a lesson book. I use various books for additional songs or technique depending upon a student's interests and abilities. I like to use different types of music - classical, traditional, pop, modern, etc. For strings, I like to use String Builder, Suzuki, and other method and etude books. However, I do not teach the Suzuki method. I use the book for the songs and exercises in the book. I also like all students to work from a theory book. When we learn how to speak, we also learn how to read and write in our language. I believe that the same is important for music. I use different books for adults and children. As for continuing students, I will see what they know and continue from there.
I like to stay flexible and work with students on their interests. Together, we can work to achieve their goals. My main goal is for students to enjoy and love music and their instrument.
