My musical experiences started at church in the 80's when I discovered that I could sing really high notes imitating Christian artists like Sandy Patty and the late puertorican soprano Yolanda Vadiz. Those experiences motivated me to consider studying music seriously not just like another hobby. I started studying voice techniques at the age of 20 at the Sacred Music Institute in the Methodist Church in Hato Rey, PR. There I took classes with tenor Jose Torres and baritone Rafael Cotto who prepared me for the audition at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico. Immediately accepted at the audition, I went on to begin my musical journey singing professionaly in choirs and as a soloist in different concert halls. Fine Arts of Puerto Rico, Carnegie Hall at NY, Episcopal Churches, Methodist Churches and also University Halls like the Interamerican University of PR and the Conservatory of Music of PR. I took master classes with tenor Alfredo Krauss, bass Justino Diaz and other famous opera singers. Later during my studies, I decided to change my main studies to Voice Education to fulfill the void of helping other singing aspirers to perfectionate their abilities mainly in music ministries at church.
I began teaching while I was still a student at the Conservatory of Music in the 1990's I was Voice Teacher at the Intermezzo Music School in Guaynabo, PR. I taught all ages from 7 - 69. I stayed there for 7 years. I also gave private singing lessons to students at my own home in Carolina, PR. And then, I proceded to give voice lessons at different churches like the Methodist Church (where I also founded and directed the choir), Evangelical Church (where I gave voice lessons at the Biblical Institute to prospect Worship Leaders). I have a calling to help all of those who wish to advance and perfect their talents, not only to be just listened but to also sing something that matters.
I use different methods depending of the students' age and ability. Singers should always learn to breathe correctly and vocalize depending on their range. I could also use the Vaccai method for opera aspiring singers. For basic piano & guitar, chords and harmonizing for accompaniment. For the recorder to learn to read music and play what's written. I also can teach in Spanish and English.
Just like homeschooling, students will learn individually at their own pace. Students must enjoy their lesson. Sometimes the students may find it discouraging but it is my mission to give them acknowledgment in their accomplishments and nurturing so they can continue to flourish and be the best musicians they can be.
