Overview:
I am an enthusiastic self driven instructor who enjoys sharing the love of music to those young and young at heart. I graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a Bachelor of Music Education in Instrumental Music (K-12). I have performed at multiple locations for various occasions such as at UL athletics games, WWE Raw, Macy's Day parade as well as concerts all over Louisiana.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching others since 2006 during my high school years. It has continued on even to today; other than private lessons I have been a staff member for band in schools across Louisiana and Texas. I have always been dedicated to my students and their pursuit of musical mastery through setting achievable goals and helping students exceed them. Through these lessons I like to focus on not only growing artists, but also creating self-motivated technical musicians. If that means covering pieces like "Let it go" along with many classical greats I will go above and beyond for my students. My goal is to help students gain the confidence, the motivation, and the drive to be better people through music. I welcome people of all ages.
METHODS USED
For all ages I like to begin with a skills test. Where they show me where they currently stand with their instrument. From there I refer to books by Trevor Wye to give students a strong fundamental basis in tone, technique, articulation, intonation/vibrato, and breathing/scales. From there the lessons would be tailored to where the student wants to go with their learning. Composition books would be kept to write down what students need to practice and to record their progress. If the student is preparing for things like recitals, concerts or other performances the lessons would cover classical pieces and other relevant pieces. For students who are learning for fun the lessons following fundamentals would be more student driven. I guide my instruction on student's ability and interests to keep it engaging and fun no matter their age.
LESSON STYLE
I approach teaching in a very relaxed manner. If my students learn in a certain type of way I will differentiate my teaching style to accommodate them. I believe all students can learn and enjoy music, it is just a matter of finding the way that speaks to them the most. I do this by first seeing their experience level, asking where they are hoping to be, setting realistic goals, and by acknowledging their mile stones to keep their motivations high. Due to my flexibility in teaching I find success with students by playing to their strengths and honing their weaknesses into skills.
