I am an inspiring and highly motivated teaching artist, who takes great joy in sharing my love of music with everyone. I received my Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education- Jazz Voice from Temple University in Philadelphia. Throughout my time at Temple University, I had the opportunity to perform at The Academy of Music in Philadelphia and at The Kennedy Center in Washington DC. I have been teaching, directing and performing for over 15 years. I am also a professionally trained actress. I studied at London Academy of Music and Dramatic, earning my Certificate in Classical Acting. I also earned my Master of Arts Degree in Theatre Arts from The University of Exeter in Exeter, Uk. I was very fortunate to study with The Globe Education Staff and perform live at Then Globe Theatre in London!
I am a motivated and caring instructor, who is committed to inspiring students to achieve their highest goals. I am encouraging and patient with my students and carefully select the best songs, exercises and approach to learning, based on each individual student. I have taught in many different ways and types of schools. I have taught in The New Jersey Public Schools for fifteen years. I have taught a wide range of courses including Choir, Vocal Music, Musical Theatre, Music Appreication, Piano and Practical Dramatics. I have also taught private lessons in piano and voice for several years.
I believe it is important for voice and piano students to have a basic understanding of music theory, as well as technique. I pull material from a variety of sources. For piano, I typically use Bastien and/ or Hal Leonard. For voice, I build a build upon the "legit" classical foundation of voice training (Similar to a dancer learning ballet first, before other forms of dance) Following that, I cultivate my students to find their own particular genre of vocal style. I always provide an encouraging and supportive approach to learning and make every lesson fun and interesting.
It is a rewarding experience when you have the opportunity to see your students blossom and grow in their talents. I look at every student as a unique individual, with the potential to achieve his or her particular goal. I think it is important to find the method or approach that works best for each individual. I set realistic goals and reasonable expectations for my students and establish a comfortable climate in which to learn and try new things. I enjoy getting to know what inspires my students and find ways to connect in a collaborate way.
