I began my teaching career at New York University as an Adjunct Professor of Voice. This gave me the opportunity to work with a very diverse group of students ranging from beginners to advanced. I have a passion for singing and teaching, My teaching method is science based, using my knowledge of the physiology and anatomy of the voice and the physics of sound to help singers achieve an effortless, resonant, and healthy sound. I believe every singer is unique and tailor my teaching to meet each students needs. I make lessons fun and low pressure while helping students reach their full potential with lots of encouragement. I have performed in musical theater all over the US and plan to pursue a Broadway performing career.
I have been teaching for 4 years since receiving my Masters in Music degree from NYU. I have worked with singers ranging from age 5 to age 86, beginners to professionals. I combine classical techniques and universal singing foundations with any style my student wants to learn. I enjoy teaching each student in a unique and personalized style. I combine music theory into my voice lessons to help students gain greater musicality skills. I also work with singers on acting and performance skills and exploring the dramatic circumstances of their songs.
I use a science based method to teach students the mechanics of their voice. I use what I call "tools" to help students achieve different aspects of singing. We usually start off voice study with work on breathing. How to take a deep breath and how to use that air effectively. Next we work on mouth shape and vowels to help make the sound more stable and fluid through their range. Finally, we work on resonance awareness to achieve their full resonance potential. I customized lessons and tools to each student and choose repertoire that will promote the techniques we are working on and help them reach the next level.
I like to have fun in my voice lessons. I try to make it a low pressure atmosphere and my students and I work as partners to navigate their unique voice. I use examples of my own singing, but the goal is not for students to match my sound. I also use a lot of metaphors and visualization to achieve vocal changes. I let students lead their lessons with their goals in mind. I am the ear for them and give them constant feedback. I also like to check in often with students on what they physically feel and hear while singing.
