Bachelor Degree: Superior Institute of Art (University) Havana
I was born in Cuba and began my musical studies at the age of 7 in vocational schools of music. I studied for 15 years in the specialties of piano, voice and music theory. For many years, I dedicated myself to singing and playing piano in various musical groups in Cuba, while studying piano and voice at the University and taking my degree in Musicology. In 2017 I decided to come to the United States and here I have focused mostly on my career as a music teacher. I always had a great passion for teaching, and after having my daughter I decided to devote myself completely to this sector.
I am currently working in 2 private studios, and as future plans I include going back to school and obtaining a Master's degree in music education for children with special needs since every day I have more and more students with special needs that I know I could help best!
I have a degree in Music Education, and also a Bachelor’s Degree in Musicology from University of Arts (Havana, Cuba). My love for education started very early by teaching neighborhood kids, and eventually I became a professor in the subjects of theory and piano at the Nola Saigh Sainz School of Music in Ciego de Avila, Cuba. I always had a passion for teaching and helping others develop their skills. I started teaching music lessons in 2010 with goals to make every lesson fun, to let the students explore music, and to give them great experiences through music. I have been teaching theory, piano and voice to children, teenagers and adults in both the public and private sectors for 10 years in Cuba and the United States. I am fluent in English and Spanish!
Piano students: I usually use the Piano Adventures method, as I find it very methodical and balanced. In each class we do exercises to improve technique, sightreading, and performance along with music theory exercises. In a second part of the lesson we work on the songs having as main goal the creation of a repertoire that the student can play later to family and friends. I like to include some singing in my piano lessons too. As a result, my students develop their ear, intonation and musical confidence in a faster way. In addition, whenever time allows, I like to encourage their creativity by composing small songs related to the subject we are learning.
Voice students: I like to start the class with vocal exercises, once we have warmed up the voice then we start working on the songs of your interest (sometimes I choose songs that I consider appropriate to work specific techniques or styles of singing too!).
Preschool students: I use everything in my hands to help them to love music and enjoy it. We dance, we jump, sometimes we color ... anything that helps them learn. My class basically consists in developing in the little ones curiosity and musical taste. Through musical games and songs, the students will understand the basics of music theory, tone and rhythm. Also, some musical games that we will be doing will help each kid to improve his reading, writing, mathematical and other academic skills, as well as his ability to remember and memorize.
Patience is a word that characterizes my teaching style!!! My classes are very dynamic! I always adapt each lesson in accordance with the student’s interests, skill level, personality, and learning style. I am flexible when it comes to teaching new knowledge. I will always find a way for my students to learn quickly and easily! With all them I have a great chemistry because of my kind and cheerful personality; and I can guarantee that both, my students and I, enjoy every second of our class!!!!!
