Overview:

I'm a highly passionate music educator with a love for inspiring students with the gift of music. I completed my Masters of Arts in Music Education at Hunter College in 2015, being the recipient of the Agnes Duffy graduation prize. As an undergraduate student, I graduated from the prestigious Macaulay Honors Program at Hunter College and was the sole recipient of the Libbie Van Arsdale Memorial Prize for Music.  Born in Brasilia, Brazil and living in New York since 2004, I've has been playing the drums since age 12. With multi-stylistic performance experience, I have had the pleasure of working with artists including Wheatus (UK No. 2 Billboard with "Teenage Dirtbag"), Mike Doughty (Soul Coughing), Andrew W.K., Viktor Király (NBC The Voice 2015 - Top 24), and Kate Nauta (Hollywood actress in Transporter 2 and the Game Plan).   I have performed throughout the United States, Europe, and Brazil and was a member of the 42 date 2015 Wheatus 15th anniversary European tour. With the band, I also appeared on the Ray D'Arcy show, featured live on Ireland's premiere TV network RTÉ One, and headlined the Trebur Open Air Festival (Germany) and Sligo Summer Festival (Ireland), playing for up to 10,000 people. I have studied privately with some of the biggest names in the industry including: Shawn Pelton (Saturday Night Live), Will Calhoun (Living Colour), Adam Deitch (Pretty Lights, John Scofield), and Bernard Purdie (Studio Legend).  Winning a scholarship to study at the renowned New York Drummer's Collective, I was also mentored by Frank Katz (Brand X).

EXPERIENCE

I embrace using music as a vehicle for igniting a passion for learning and discovery throughout student’s academic careers. As a highly unique vital art form that promotes a method of expression of inimitable beauty, music can brighten the days of every human being. I want to be a part of this process in the lives of my students.  I have had been teaching private lessons since my High School years and have had students in my home studio for the last 5 years.   Furthermore, the reason why I want to be an educator lies in my fundamental belief in the potential of every student. While I eventually became a high performing student, for a number of years I underperformed and had to deal with other people’s notions about my capacity to succeed. To see the dramatic turn I took with academics motivates me to set the same example for other students who may once be in the same position I was. As educators, we are the examples of success students should look on to in realizing their own potential of the future they could all have, without exceptions.

METHODS USED

I tailor my lessons around the student's interests while balancing this with basic general technical foundations. Dividing the lesson between hand technique and performance, this allows for a balanced and inclusive teaching experience for both the teacher and student.

LESSON STYLE

I set clear expectations of the student in every lesson, working with them to identify a goal that is within their reach. Through consistent positive reinforcement, patience, and encouragement I help students through any issues they may be encountering. In finding objectives that are within the student's interest levels, this allows for a motivating experience that keeps the lessons fun and engaging.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
