Overview:
I'm a fun and passionate music teacher who loves to work with different individuals and make them as excited as I am about making music! 15 years ago I began my music lessons as a child and I never stopped. After, playing in solo performances and 3 different symphony's in Vancouver, BC. Although I didn't pursue my university education in music, I have always been very active in the field of music and have comprehensive knowledge about music theory, performance, and practice. Teaching is one of the best experiences of my life and I want to continue it as long as possible!
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching when I was a high school student, about 7 years ago, with the flute. I was part of the school symphony so took students from my class and tutored them on their technique and stamina to play richer, louder, longer tones. After becoming involved with more children as well as children with special needs through my work in university I began teaching musicality to kids in different settings, which led me to start teaching the piano to beginners. I find that when teaching just reading a book and rote playing isn't enough. I like to use scales, singing, and creative composition to get my students to think outside of the box and learn to independently create music while learning theory basics. I like to help my students be one of a kind and be in love with the music that they are creating...if they don't look forward to coming to class again, then I know I haven't done my job fully.
METHODS USED
For beginners children, I like to start with a primer book. Either through the suzuki method or piano adventures. Also, there are instances where I find simple pieces from different composers, put them together into a booklet and start teaching through those while having the student write music theory in a music notebook. For beginner adults, I think its best to start with things they're interested in playing. I know that adults gravitate towards music because they would like to play some of their favorite songs and through that I teach them music, both theory and practice.
LESSON STYLE
It's important to me to cater my teaching style to each student. Not all students learn the same way so its not a one size fits all.
Some of my students need more pressure and more practice and want to have more material and others like a more laid back approach.
I will spend the first 1-3 lessons to figuring out what your preferred learning method is, what the problem areas are, and what kind of books, tools, and games I should prepare for the rest of our classes. This ensures that I can accommodate to all my students, regardless of age or learning ability.

She's doing a very fine job so far. Friendly and Warm with kids, yet focused on her work. It's too early in the game and hence giving her a four star (as against five)! :)
