Overview:
I've always been passionate about music and it is an integral part of my everyday life. Music is like breathing to me...can't live with out it. I learned to play piano and guitar at a young age and was singing as soon as I could talk. I began to compose songs at the age of eleven and found songwriting to be an amazing way to express my thoughts and ideas. In 2009 I started writing songs for Motivational Speakers. The direction of my lyrics went from stories about my life to consciously sending a positive message to my audience. I became involved with a band that played "posi" music and performed many of my songs. I joined the Empower Music Association and participated in their conferences. Music has always motivated me to touch people's hearts in such a way that they find the courage to follow their dreams. What is yours?
EXPERIENCE
After earning a degree in Theater from UMD, I moved to New York City to start my career in performance. My journey took me to some great cities such as Paris, where I was able to sing in French and imerse myself in the rich culture of France. From there I traveled to the "All American City of Entertainment", Las Vegas, NV. My extensive background in songwriting led me to write, produce and record my own CD, "Almost Home". After a lifetime of performing, I enjoy sharing my gifts and find teaching so rewarding. I love helping people discover their own talent and find their voice through music.
METHODS USED
For beginning piano students, I use Alfred's basic Piano Library. This works well with young children as it has colorful pictures and easy to understand language. For Adults who are just starting to learn piano I like Alfred's basic Adult Piano Course. This course comes with audio CD's to accompany the student each step of the way. It makes it fun. For beginning Guitar students, we go over the parts of the guitar and learn how to tune the instrument. From there we learn a series of basic chords and start to implement them into songs. My voice students will find my approach is intuitive and responsive to their individual needs. I have studied many different techniques over the years and I use them as a collective resource from which to teach.
LESSON STYLE
I love watching my students embrace what they've learned and grow. I am very intuitive and use this skill to serve each student independantly. It is so empowering to watch my students' confidence grow as they learn. I encourage my students to set realistic deadlines for performance, audition, and recording times. I help them find outlets for their skills and accompany them throughout the process. Recently I was overjoyed to find that one of my students booked a gig at his college, and is getting paid! His face was beaming as he relayed this information:)
