Overview:

I am a caring and spirited instructor, who loves being able to share my love of music by teaching others. I have a performance degree in violin, and am currently finishing my masters in music therapy at FSU. This degree has pushed me to refine my skills on a few secondary instruments, including piano, voice, viola, ukulele, and guitar. I have been fortunate in the performing experiences presented to me, and have performed many diverse genres and styles, as well as in a number of unique settings. Some notable experiences I have had have been; playing in a classical quartet at the White House, playing fiddle in the bluegrass band at Cedar Point Amusement Park, playing electric violin with a country/rock band in Ohio and Kentucky, as well as participating in many orchestra tours throughout Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Austria, Sweden, and England. I strive to utilize what I've learned through these experiences in my teachings.

EXPERIENCE

My music studies began at the age of five, and I have been playing the violin and viola for over twenty years now. I have about ten years of voice instruction, piano lessons, and guitar experience. My teaching experience dates back to high school beginning with only a small number of students, and have continued to teach lessons for eleven years. I developed my own studio in college throughout my studies at DePauw University, including holding biannual recital events to encourage and showcase my students abilities.

METHODS USED

My methods depend on and are catered to the skill level and age of the student. Overall, I focus on methodologies that combine technique building, musicality, and ear training. For novice students, I utilize Suzuki methodology as well as Essential Elements for very young students. I strive to incorporate student preferred music into lessons, as I believe that this encourages a love for the instrument, as well as learning music as a whole. In addition, I have an extensive dance background (ballet/tap/jazz), and enjoy including eurythmics in my teachings to improve the players ear and overall musicality.

LESSON STYLE

Nothing is more important and rewarding to me than seeing my students develop their own passion for music and the instrument. I work extremely hard to help my students achieve their goals by catering every lesson specifically to the student. This includes getting to know each and every student, exploring their musical preferences, taking note of their learning styles; then utilizing these things to plan realistic objectives and enjoyable lessons every week. I am passionate, understanding, and very patient. I can be a zealous teacher, or a more relaxed one according to how each student learns best.
