I am a passionate performer and teacher who enjoys working with students of all ages and sharing my experiences with them. In 1997, I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater from the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and have been performing and teaching professionally ever since. I have had the honor and pleasure of performing in six shows on Broadway: "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee", "South Pacific", "9 to 5" and "Priscilla, Queen of the Dessert" “It Shoulda Been You” and “Escape to Margaritaville “. I also performed in theaters across the US with the National Touring Company of "Les Miserables". In the concert scene, I have performed with The Cincinnati symphony and been a guest soloist with Peter Nero and the Philly Pops and the North Carolina Philharmonic. I have also sung in numerous concerts in NYC at venues such as Feinstein’s 54 Below, Town Hall, Merkin Hall, Ars Nova and The Laurie Beachman Theater.
My teaching experience began with giving masterclasses to theater tour groups coming to NYC. I fell in love with teaching! I find it very rewarding sharing my experinces with the students and helping them achieve their goals. I started my own private vocal studio so I could work with students on a one to one basis. I teach out of my home in Secaucus, NJ and also out of Ripley Grier Studios in NYC. I have also continued to give masterclasses and workshops for such companies as NY OffStage, Broadway Classroom, Camp Broadway and Jeff Alexander productions. I have also given masterclasses at Shenandoah University, Brigham Young University, The Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, Philadelphia School of the Arts and Boston Conservatory. In addition to Universities, I’ve worked with performing arts camps and schools across the country including, Heid’s ETC School of Musical Arts, Orbit Arts Academy, Creative Learning Studio, Summer Stars Rochester Broadway League and The Levine School of Music.
Every student is different, especially when it comes to vocal training, so I tailor my lesson plans according to each individual student's ability and needs. I begin with the basics of breath control and work to help each student find their natural voice. I use different vocal exercises to help improve tone and range and then incorporate what we've learned from those exercises into singing songs. We'll work on musicianship and the acting of your songs and strive toward a polished and engaged performance.
My goal in teaching is to make the student feel relaxed and at ease and therefore open to trying new ideas. I help them set realistic goals and acknowledge their accomplishments along the way, making them more eager to practice and learn. I love seeing that spark when an idea clicks and the student finally understands a concept or achieves a goal. There's no better feeling than helping a student move from one level to the next. I try to take a holistic approach to singing and help my students make the connection between their emotions and physicality that go hand in hand with with music.
