Bachelor Degree: University of North Florida, Course Work: University of North Florida
Hello! I am a drummer of 17 years. I graduated from the University of North Florida with a Bachelors of Music in 2021. I also minored in American Sign Language! I have played professionally throughout the United States, and I love what I do! What I love even more than performing is teaching and sharing my knowledge with my students. My experience as a drummer also extends to marching snare and tenors. I have played on competitive drum lines, in high school marching band as well as indoor percussion and college drum line. I can help prepare you for a drum line audition or just teach you how to jam out on the set!
I have 5 years of teaching experience, which began in high school as I taught younger students joining the drum line. At the same time, I taught drum set at a music and event venue that held lessons during the day, as well as independently at my old home studio. I typically teach students from the ages of 6 through 12, however I have experience teaching teens and adults as well. It's never too late to start learning! I have loved seeing my students improve and begin to get comfortable behind the set, that's the best part!
Every one of my students begins with a combination of pad work and time behind the set. The first thing I establish is technique as it is the foundation to moving around the set and becoming comfortable. My aim is to have fun, so the first short term goal is to be able to play the fundamental drum beat! We later add more and build upon it. Students typically can play this beat after just a couple of lessons! I will recommend my favorite drum books for you to use at home when you practice as well as in class. YES! This means you will learn how to read music!!
The most important thing when learning a new instrument is having fun! That is the goal in all of my lessons. This is why after a review of what we learned in the previous lesson, I always introduce something new! Every week you will have something new to practice, whether it is based on the previous week's material or a completely new concept. It is important to practice everything you learn in order to develop muscle memory. This means reps, reps, REPS!! I teach at the student's pace, everyone learns differently! There is no pressure to play perfectly. I like to maintain a relaxed and fun environment in order to support my students!
