Lou has worked as a jazz and pop pianist/keyboard player and teacher for over 30 years. In addition, he was a music teacher in the School District of Philadelphia. He studied with numerous jazz and classical teachers, including Jimmy Giuffre, Roland Hanna, and Frank Wigglesworth. He is currently studying the Taubman approach to piano- a system that teaches an ergonomic approach.
Has worked with jazz and pop bands throughout his career, and currently leads his own jazz ensemble. He has periodically performed solo piano concerts of his own piano arrangements and he regularly plays solo keyboard/piano music at private functions. In addition, he created and performed music shows for elementary age children. He had 14 years of teaching experience at the School District and has a huge amount of experience teaching piano to beginners through advanced students of all ages.
The methods vary depending on the student. The intent is to find the student's learning style and to teach to the student in whichever way he or she is best able to absorb the material.
As with the methods, the style depends on the student's needs. Highly directed, highly open ended.....whatever works for the needs of the student.
