Luke is a cellist based in the New York area. As an orchestral musician Luke has toured extensively including China and Scandinavia and was a regular member of the Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra. Until June 2011, Luke lived and performed in Austin, Texas playing popular and folk music and touring the southern part of the United States. He has a B.A. in music performance from Stony Brook University, studying under renowned soloist Colin Carr and the Emerson String Quartet. He is currently enrolled in the M.S.Ed degree in Music Education at Queens College.
I have been teaching strings, especially cello, for over decade and it is a passion of mine.
I use a modified Suzuki method that combines the ear training and consistency of Suzuki with the thoughtful consideration of extra etudes and reading materials help train a complete musician. I use whatever music we happen to be working on to discuss concepts of theory and musicianship and always encourage my students to think for themselves.
My Lesson styles are fun and comfortable. I understand the burden that most kids are under these days and try not to overwhelm them with work while still demanding a consistent practice regimen and progress toward a goal. I talk to my students a lot emphasizing concepts and context over route learning.
