I am a true lover of sharing music with others! I believe music brings people together and transcends cultural barriers. I am currently studying music at Austin Community College before I continue my studies at a full Music University. I have been fortunate to experience many different forms of music and have studied, performed, and taught various styles of music for the past 10 years. Music opens doors for people! I am a young teacher, still being a student, and I love teaching all ages, and am especially good with kids! I want to keep the spirit of fun and discovery in every engagement with prospecting musicians. :]
I began teaching while still in High School and have had a strong desire to share my passion with many students over the years. I have designed my own personal home studio that serves as an excellent place of learning and can teach the industry side of being a musician aswell as the steps to learning to play instruments that I teach. I am first a Drummer/ Percussionist with 9 years of experience and am familiar with many styles, I teach Beginning Bass Guitar as well keyboard with 7 years of experience. I am very open to the student's personal goals and want more than anything to guide a prospecting player to achieve all of their potential!
I first like to get to know my student's goal whether it's just to learn to play, improve their skills, or become a professional. For a beginner I introduce the instrument, and instruct them in the basic techniques to start playing music the first day! I will then give them the instructional tools so they can feel comfortable putting their ideas into practice. I am very open to the student's musical desires, but I have found that instructional books are a great way to improve one's skills. For my drum students I start with the well- renown "Stick Control" by George Lawrence Stone because of it's ease of learning and incredible versatility to a percussionist. For Bass and keyboard instruments I begin by getting the student playing music the first day and then gradually introduce them to the musical notation, scales, chords, and arpeggios that take musicians to the next level. For these students I write excercises on manuscript paper to teach the value in learning to write and read music.
I have a philosophy that playing music is a genuine demonstration of expression and feeling and I teach students to channel their own inspiration and passion into the basic principles of modern and non- modern music styles. Setting goals is the best way for the student to maximize each instructional lesson, and at the pace in which the student progresses, they will find great satisfaction in achieving goals and finding the potential of expression they have inside them :]. I am not a strict teacher but rather enjoy motivating students and keeping the fun factor and the art of playing music forefront. I was an untalented musician as a beginner but the love of music is what kept me pursuing greater heights in my abilities and I believe it is the same for all who wish to learn!
