My Name is Lynnea and I have had a passion for music for as long as I can remember. I love all music and music styles. I have been playing the piano for over 20 years and teaching piano since 2017. Most recently I was teaching piano and music theory to beginners at Rock and Roll High School in Raleigh, NC. Teaching has become a passion as I love working with children and young adults. I like making lessons fun and interactive and I am excited to share my passion about music while providing a good platform for learning fundamentals.
I started taking piano lessons at 10 years old and fell in love immediately. I excelled quickly and started playing recitals for large crowds at 12 and have since played solo and in various bands. I have played for small venues and at private parties. In 2015, I started teaching from my home and had 5-10 students at any given time. In 2017, I accepted a teaching position with Rock and Roll High School. I have had as many as 40 students ranging in age from 6 to 65 and in ability from beginner to intermediate. I am equally passionate about music and teaching and look forward to using my passion for teaching to help others enhance their knowledge and ability for piano.
Typically I like to start with new students by getting know their learning style and goals. This allows me to tailor my approach accordingly. While fundamentals are necessary, I try to keep the lessons fun and interactive. I have been very successful with students by allowing them to have fun and showcase their strength while ensuring they understand the basics. I am patient and work hard to inspire and coach my students. I prefer to consider myself as a mentor versus just a teacher. I am very flexible in music type and style and like to allow the student to participate in choosing the repertoire that we focus on. I use several different levels of lesson books and theory/homework book depending on the students skill level. Although we may work from the lesson book, l like to mix-up my lesson to keep the students engaged and energized.
I am a coach and mentor. I am patient, animated, engaged and show high energy when teaching. I partner with students to make them excited about learning and comfortable enough to explore. I find it very important to teach the students to be patient with themselves and to find joy versus pressure in the the learning environment. My goal is to make the student excited to learn and to look forward to their next lesson. I consider myself successful when the student is excited about the lesson and the music. Nothing makes me happier than for a student to move into the next level of their music education.
Miss Lynnea is so much fun!! She invests her talent into helping me be the best musician I can be and for that, I’m grateful. :-D
