Overview:
I am a representative of famous Russian Piano School, 20 years teaching and performing in America. I am a graduate of Glinka Conservatory, class Prof. Al.Benditsky,who represents the tradition of Prof. Heinrich Neuhaus Piano School. After moving in USA, performed in concerts, taught in Music School (Queens), taught in private studio, worked as pianist/vocal coach, organist,choir and orchestra conductor. Played in concerts : Carnegie Weill Recital Hall, Merkin Concert Hall KAufman Music Center, , Liederkranz Foundation, St.Paul Chapel of Trinity Church Wall Street, Riverdale Temple etc.
EXPERIENCE
I am teaching piano students for my entire life, and Russian Piano School means the discipline, serious practice at home, meticulous work on technical skills, piano touch and sound. Later after moving in NYC and working with my organ and conducting mentor Dr. Justin Bischof, I added the piano improvisation skills as a very important way to the enjoyable, successful and accelerated learning piano. The elements of composition are necessary for improvisation. I am teaching the very advanced ways of learning sight reading, same time how to improvise, transpose. I have a serious experience with children and teens with Autism, ADHD, Aspergers syndrome. I am encouraging the parents to be present at lessons. Among my former students there are professional musicians as well as amateurs.
METHODS USED
I am using Walter Giseking-Karl Leimer methods. The first text book is "The School of Piano playing" by prof. Nikolaev (American edition),which means starting to read simultaneously treble and bass clefs, scales, etudes by Cherni, "Childrens Albums" by Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Inventions by J.S.Bach etc. It is the solid academical approach. Also from the first lessons me and student will play in 4 hands, and student will learn how to accompany and improvise from very first lessons, which is the favorite part of lessons for all my students!
LESSON STYLE
Simply I make it as interesting, as it was for me in my childhood. Which means not only playing, but listening the recordings of the famous musicians, reading the stories behind the compositions, making the piano study larger than only skills, but learning how to understand and interpret music. We will use some poetry to compose a simple songs, student will have assignment not only to practice piano, but while listening music at home, to find a recordings (youtube) that would be a strong attraction for student to learn a certain music or certain styles .
