Hi! I am a passionate music student at NMU and I have been playing the trumpet for 14 years now. I am going to be a senior this next school year and will be graduating next spring! I really love working with students and I love sharing my knowledge and love for music! I've been able to play with many great musicians, as I have played with the Marquette Symphony Orchestra, play at the Cathedral in Marquette, and play with The Marquette City Band, and other well known groups in the area. I love playing, and I'm always looking for opportunities to improve, and to also help others!
My teaching experience started in highschool, so I have been giving lessons to students for a couple years now. I like to make sure my students are having fun, while also constantly improving and growing as a player and musician! I try to encourage a regular practice schedule, and make sure they keep their horns clean! I really hope to help my students grow, and I hope to also inspire them to keep playing! I always encourage students to look for any opportunity to play, and to improve. I am always looking for new students to help grow as trumper players!
For beginner students, I will typically use the essential elements books so we can go over the fundamentals and get things going. From there I begin introducing scales and other exercises to help with fundamental knowledge of the trumpet. From there I will give students some studies and solo repertoire to keep progressing! I try to get to know my students and know what they're interested in so I can plan lessons accordingly and try to build a good relationship with them so lessons can be fun and engaging!
It is always super exciting to see a student be inspired and having fun with music! That's one of the reasons I think it's important to go at their own pace. I try to set realistic goals for my students in lessons so they don't feel overwhelmed. By acknowledging their accomplishments it can really help them feel more inspired and eager to learn more! It is really important to me that I help them continue feeling inspired, and I try to be as positive in lessons as I can be! I really hope to help students develop a passion for music!
