My name is Marc and I am a choir teacher in Central California. As a motivated voice instructor, I enjoy working with all types of voices. As one of my voice teachers always stated, "Singing is a journey of self-discovery", and I get to help others on the journey. I have performed in various musical settings including musical theater, choir, opera, and with orchestra. I strive to make learning about the student (that makes learning more enjoyable, right?). I hope that I can help allow a musician to change a heart through their music and that music will fill their heart for the rest of their life.
I am fairly new to teaching, but have taught 1-4 grade general music, 5-6 grade choir, and am currently a high school choir director. I have performed in many choral settings including professional choirs with full orchestras. I have made debuts in operas. I have also directed and assisted choirs in the learning process and in performance. To create a healthy vocal sound, I encourage vocalizing everyday for at least 30 minutes. Singing is (kind of) like going to the gym - in order for the muscle memory to occur, the muscles need to be trained properly. I am always looking forward to gaining experience from my singers/pianists. I learn just as much from my students as they learn from me.
I always teach based of what the student knows and/or what the student is interested in. I teach technical aspects, as well as repertoire and music theory. A healthy vocal sound is our number one priority. I integrate music theory within a students music lessons through their repertoire. Students will become familiar with sight-singing melodies and rhythms of various levels. I will introduce repertoire appropriate for the voice type and technical skill level. It is ultimately up to the student to keep track of their progress; if a student does not practice throughout the week, the learning process will suffer. Practice, practice, practice!
I am always intrigued when one of my students makes a breakthrough in their learning. Music is a type of adventure that allows for building blocks to build on top of one another. Students work at their own pace. When a students is ready to move onto the next level, we will advance. Allowing students to see and hear their improvement encourages students to keep pushing through learning their instrument. All lessons are tailored differently to students wants, needs, and skill level. Together, we will set goals and see them through as the students individual lessons go on.
