Manhattan School of Music Merit Scholarship 2020
I grew up in Naples, Italy and I started playing drums since I was about 5. By the time I was 14 I was already playing in the national music scene. After moving to study at the Conservatory of Amsterdam (NL) at 18, I quickly started to be part of a more intrnational scene, and by the time I got a scholarship to pursue my second Master degree at Manhattan School of Music in New York, I was already starting playing with some of the most prominent names of the music scene. Teaching has always been a constant throughout my musical career. I developed as a teacher as I developed as a musician. I'm passionate about it and I hope I'll continue to inspire my students to be the best they can.
I have had a lot of teachers in my life and I learned a lot from every one of them not only about playing, but also about delivering information. Since the early days I was developing as a teacher as I was developing as a drummer. Already when I was studying at the Amsterdam Conservatory other fellow students asked me for advices on how to play and practice more efficiently. There I discovered my passion and predisposition for teaching, and from then on, I started to have my own studio of a vast variety of students, from pears, kids, and adults, all coming from the most diverse background. I’ve taught in every environment possible, from institutions to private studio, from group classes of kids to masterclasses for advanced players, developing a strong communication skill to be able to deliver the knowledge to every different kind of student helping them to recognize and actualize their potential allowing the blossoming of their musicianship.
I am passionate about sharing my knowledge, my skills and my vision to my students. I love teaching and I have been fortunate to be able to keep doing it successfully to this day because people appreciate my way of delivering the information: Simple and Clear. My method is personalized for every different student. For example for a beginner we would start with listening to some music and slowly track down what the drums is doing in the song, what's it's role in the music. From then on, depending on the student's interest, I'll teach them how to play a very simple groove, and start from there. Sooner or later I definitely will focus on the hands technique which is essential not only to improve as a drummer, but also to make sure not to get hurt with unnecesary body tension. I always try to keep the lesson fun and engaging no matter the topic discussed.
Every student is a universe in itself and every universe is unique and precious. I believe one of the most important things in teaching is understanding. Deeply understanding the student and be flexible to constantly find different and more effective ways to deliver, depending on each individual, is the strength of my method. Every student is a different world and every world is unique and precious. Ultimately, I believe lighting up the student’s inner fire of curiosity and passion, is one of the greatest lesson that can be taught.
