Overview:
I believe that each and every student possesses the inherent capacity for greatness. My main role as a tutor is not to impose rigidly, one size fits all standards or methods onto the student. My role instead is to help each individual student tap into their own unique greatness to hopefully ignite in each one of them the joy of being lifelong learners. I don't consider this just a job. I consider it a privilege to play a small part in helping to mold the future of tomorrow today. I am honored to be a part of this process. So let’s begin!!
EXPERIENCE
I have over 6 years of collective classical guitar and piano teaching experience. I began playing the guitar at the age of 15 and the piano at 7. At around 18 I decided that I wanted to become a full-time classical guitarist. I began at William Paterson as a classical guitar major. 2 years after that I realized my dream of entering a conservatory. I was accepted into Mannes School of music in New York. I participated in numerous master classes with some of the best classical guitarists in the world. I also participated in 2 international competitions one in Bratislava, Slovakia, and the other in Orvieto, Italy. I finished my studies at Montclair state under the tutelage of Dennis Cinneli. My expertise is in beginner to intermediate piano and beginner to advanced classical guitar.
METHODS USED
For piano, I typically use the entire Schaum series. I feel that it is the best, most affordable, systematic option out there. After that, I typically use the Thompson method or any selected material by the student that is appropriate to their level. Also in order to make the lessons more engaging and fun for the student, I allow some time for music making where the student gets a chance to play any notes with my accompaniment in the background. I find that this approach works excellently. For classical guitar, I use the curriculum from the Royal Conservatory of Canada from levels 1 to 5. In my opinion, it is the best most systematic approach to the classical guitar. I also use teaching material from Simon Powis. His materials are also excellent and ideal for the aspiring classical guitarist.
LESSON STYLE
If I could describe my style as a mix combination of classical, rock, and songwriting. For technique, I utilize traditional classical techniques since, in my opinion, I believe that they are the most effective in establishing a strong foundation. For creativity, I usually give each the student the chance to play a duo with me playing anything that they want. I also try to relate to the student how classical techniques provide an excellent foundation for any musical style. Most importantly I try to make each lesson a fun and engaging experience. Learning an instrument effectively can be hard work, but it doesn't mean that it needs to boring.
