I'm an enthusiastic, patient, and bilingual music teacher that strives to bring out the best in each one of his students. As an active artist that started out as a self taught “play it by ear” type of guitarist in his early teens and worked his way up to college level, It’s my hope that students will find me relatable and inspiring. I think the most important thing for students to keep in mind when they begin learning an instrument is patience and discipline. Many times we’re too focused on the end goal that we forget to appreciate the journey there. My job is to make it easier for you to enjoy the learning process.
I work with several teaching companies in the Seattle area and prior to that, I taught at The Stars Inc. School of Music and The Music Workshop in Miami. Over the past few years I have helped people of all ages get the results they want. Whether your goal is to learn traditional songs from your home country to surprise their relatives, or improve your technical or reading ability so you can get into music school, or if you’re just looking for help with your own original compositions, I’m willing and able to guide you through your journey.
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method introducing them to simple single string melodies that aid in teaching them how to read in open position. Once the student has progressed and has a good foundation with the basics, I begin to incorporate more intricate rhythms and chords and eventually move them on to learning riffs and short songs that will help them meet their own individual goals. For adults who are usually more straight forward with what they want to get out of the lessons, I usually jump straight into asking them about their favorite artists and influences to give me a good idea of where they want to be in the long run. I then begin working out a long term plan/lesson schedule that will get help them reach their goals as soon as possible.
Nothing compares to the feeling you get when you see your pupils happily growing and accomplishing every goal they set up for themselves. Since everyone is unique and works at their own pace, I don't think it's fair to approach every student the same way. It is of paramount importance that instructors not only pay close attention to their student's progress, but also their lack of progress in whatever areas they may be struggling in. As a mentor, I do my best to listen to each individual's unique needs and address them in a way that will inspire dedication and determination instead self consciousness and apathy.
