Maria teaches me at Lander University in Greenwood, SC. She began teaching me my Freshman year and was the first private lesson I?d ever had. She has taught me so much and continues to motivate me in so many ways each lesson. I am grateful to have the opportunity to continue learning from her! She is understanding and knows how to motivate her students to want to do better. She is an extremely talented musician and you can tell how much passion and love she has for the clarinet.
I took lessons from Maria O for two years in high school. She did a great job of taking me from a high school clarinetist who barely made all state and didn’t want to study music to a scholarship winner and performance major at U of SC. She was very flexible and worked around my busy schedule. Even when I didn’t have much time or focus to dedicate to clarinet, she found small, attainable goal for me to work towards so my playing didn’t stagnate. She pushed me and encouraged me to work hard even when I was struggling with the basics of embouchure. Overall, I highly recommend Maria O. She will take your playing (regardless of where it is) and increase it. But with any teacher, taking lessons is no guarantee of improvement; YOU (yes, you, the person reading this) must take initiate and practice. If you aren’t willing to practice, not even Maria can help you.
Maria has been doing lessons with my 7th grade daughter for 4 months now. I have seen her confidence in her playing abilities increase over this time and she is not as timid when playing new music. My daughter did well on her Region Band tryouts and made the Middle School Alternate Band and was also invited to try out for the Tri-Dac program and was accepted!! Maria makes sure she has practice music to work on outside of the music provided by the school band director and of course scales to practice. My daughter looks forward to her time with Maria and makes sure she practices during the week to be ready for her lesson. We are so happy to have found Maria as a clarinet teacher!!
Maria currently gives my 13 year old daughter private lessons. She is an amazing teacher. While my daughter doesn't get excited about much, she does enjoy having her lessons. I have noticed a difference in how she plays when she's practicing at home. She works great with children. She's very patient and knows how to explain what she's teaching in a way that they'll be able to understand. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to grow their skills.
Good instructor explains everything thoroughly
Maria is a good teacher, she is upbeat and my daughter is enjoying her first time lesson experience and is making good progress as a beginner. This past week Maria had trouble with her internet, but gave us an additional time to help make up for the interrupted internet connection. I hope the connection is better next week.
Maria seems to quickly figure out what I most need to work on. She is very good at seeing and hearing my problem areas, and so far I find her corrections and instructions to be very helpful. Of course, they are hard to actually do :) She is very patient, and ready to help me in my goals of playing jazz clarinet. I only hope I can actually absorb the lessons well.
Really great. I am a beginner. She is very patient. Her explanations are excellent. I am enjoying this learning experience.
