I started playing the piano at age 3 and the violin at age 12. I have always been involved in the perfomring arts. I have been teaching for over 25 years. I started teaching when I was in high school. I went to The King's College and majored in Music Education. I have also performed throughout the US and Europe. Right after my college graduation I went to study music and art and concertized through out Italy and Switzerland. I have my studio in my Brewster home. I have taught in many different settings and have taught many different age groups and levels.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience started when I was in high school. A lot of children in my neighborhood wanted to learn violin and piano, I suddenly became the neighborhood teacher at just 17! After college I continued teaching privately. I have also taught in public and privet schools. My main passion in teaching is to help ANYONE who wants the gift of playing an instrument. What a thrill it is to see the smile on my students faces when they get on stage and enjoy playing their solo in a recital, or watching my students play in an orchestra.
METHODS USED
I try to create a unique and individualized lesson methods and plans. I try to personalize my lessons in a way that best suits a student's personality. Not everyone learns in the same manner. My lessons include theory, technique, solo repertoire, ear training and performance preparation. Performance is an art form and takes preparation and practice. I have tips to help students to get the most out of every chance they have to perform and we practice those ideas throughout the lessons. We start even before any concerto or recitals are even scheduled.
LESSON STYLE
I have a focused yet comfortable approach to teaching. One of my greatest thrills is watching my students succeed in either conquering a new technique or simply feeling the joy of finishing a piece. I take into consideration who my student is, what they are going through and watch them grow over time into confident musicians, performers and individuals. I give each student the experience to learn to play with other musicians. This teaches the student to be prepared, confident and expressive in their playing. There is a special bond that takes place when playing chamber music. They have to be certain in what they are playing and communicate with other musicians what they are trying to get across and portray in any particular piece. This is important even in the young students after they have learned and feel comfortable with the basic technique of their instrument.
