I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I have a proven record of success preparing students for voice examinations, auditions, and competitions for the last 15 years.
I have performed with The Canadian Royal Opera Company, the National Opera in Greece, the National Opera of Albania, and for various community and social functions. As a teacher I have been on the staff of Albuquerque Institute of Music, Albuquerque Public Schools, Santa Fe Public Schools, Music Centre House and Royal Academy of Music in Massachusetts , at the International Music Academy and Town Centre Montessori Private Schools, in Markham, Canada, at the Toronto Faculty of Music, Newmarket Academy of Music,Arcadia Academy of Music etc.
My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time , and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio and music schools for the last 15 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. If a student isn't having fun in their lessons, then I'm not doing my job! My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I'm always looking to bring on new students of all ages!
Music for Little Mozart Series is great method to keep little kids interested and help to have fun while learning. The Music Workbook contains pages of coloring, tracing, matching, ear training and listening that have been carefully designed to reinforce the musical concepts introduced in the Music Lesson Books.
Alfred Piano Method gives you tons of options for teaching the piano–including a basic course and a prep course that have supplemental books (recital books, technique books, and notespellers) that coordinate with them. Plus, one of the best things about the Alfred Piano Method is that they have a series that’s packed with colorful graphics that’s perfect for students.
The Hal Leonard method starts with the basics of rhythms, before transitioning students to actually playing notes, and focuses on teaching them the basics of music theory before they even start learning scales.
I believe that motivating and inspiring music students requires a different approach. I love to teach because it’s very rewarding to see when a student gets “it” after many trials and errors. Every practice session should have a goal, and practice goals are more important than setting a time. I believe that everyone has the capability to play something easy and fun if he/she is willing to put some time into the practice. I really enjoy working with students of all ages – every student brings their own interests and personalities, and we end up learning from each other. Music helps in recognizing patterns, fine motor skills, work ethic, and most importantly gives students an outlet for expression.
