I enjoy students of all ages and levels of musical experience. My students have done well in the music exams through the Toronto Conservatory system and at local music festivals. Appreciation of music is an important life skill. The skill formed is as unique as each individual. Using music to tell a story or express emotions develops creativity and empathy. Helping each person discover their musical gift is a fun adventure. Understanding the symbols and language of music make it possible for the student to explore all types of sound from all cultures.
I have always enjoyed helping students play better. My private teaching career began in 1978 and continues to the present. It is always more fun for the student it they understand why something is important and what the long term benefits are for them. No question is questioned. We enjoy exploring the Language of Music and the requirements of their instrument. Additionally, I have developed a method for addressing Performance Anxiety that has proven effective in any performance situation.
Beginning piano students have used The Music Tree series. The format provides excellent reading skills and develops tonal memory and theory. Clarinet for Beginners by Avrahm Galper is the method book that has given students a foundation for whatever level they aspire to achieve. Students are encouraged to tell me what they would like to play. Overcoming performance anxiety is an important skill. I have developed a technique that has successfully overcome that problem for many students and friends.
Friendly and encouraging interaction with students makes for a pleasant experience and allows students to achieve their potential. Lessons are an opportunity to explore creative expression through music. The fundamentals of music are the tools for creative expression. Creative expression is encouraged even in the beginner's first lesson. I like to explore music from the basic structure of the symbols used and how the sounds are grouped to the more complex. This makes the system of sound and symbol logical instead of arbitrary.

Marianne is a delightful person. She is very personable and knowledgeable! Marianne definitely knows her craft and has a very wonderful way of teaching and communicating with both the students and the parents. Her clarinet and piano skills are awesome!
