BM, Sonoma State University Vocational Certificate, Music Recording/Production, Fullerton College
I am passionate and hard-working. A great deal of my free time is spent recording and producing music. I enjoy watching my students grow as much as I enjoy finding new ways of growing and learning myself. I am often most inspired by the raw and vulnerable, simple and yet hear-wrenching melodies I come across. Moments as a listener, when a melodic theme takes over and everything else seems to dim out, almost as background noise, are my absolute farovite. I see music as more than a passtime or hobby, it is a way of life for me, and I endlessly strive to stay connected.
I have been teaching voice and piano to all ages for about 3 years. Many students have come to me saying, “I want to learn this song!” Much of my experience has been working with students who want to learn to play and sing songs by their favorite artists. I have also spent a great deal of time working with kids ages 6-15. I have found in my time teaching that music is most valuable when appreciated both creatively and technically. I strive to bring a unique balance of both to each lesson, and connect with students in a way that compliments their reasons for embracing music as both a listener and a player.
Depending on previous experience, voice lessons tend to begin with foundations of breathing and relaxing the muscles of the jaw and throat. From there, repertoire is developed based on the long term goals and needs of the student. I have taught piano from the Bastien, Keith Snell and Alfred’s Music series, and feel most comfortable when the student is open to my advice about which series would be a good fit for then :-) i also firmly believe that working on material a prospective student loves listening to is paramount!
My approach to teaching is very student-centric. I firmly believe that every student has unique talents and insights. I strive to find the right balance for every student, between their personal goals and what areas of opportunity for growth I see for them. It is my mission to help every student get the most out of every lesson, and leave knowing that they have discovered something new about themselves and their ability to connect with music. I also find that it is just as important to develop and appreciation for music as a listener when learning an instrument.
