ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

BA, University of Florida, English

Overview:
Music has been a passion of mine since I was a little girl. I grew up in Florida, and in middle school, I joined band and chose the Flute as my instrument. I've played in numerous All-County concert performances in both my middle school and high school careers. I've continued to play throughout college, despite not being a music major, and have played for numerous weddings and funerals. I continue to strengthen my skill in performance as well as music theory. My hopes are to keep music alive by teaching kids who are beginning or looking to strengthen their skills.
EXPERIENCE
I started playing flute in middle school. After a year I went on to become first chair and perform in numerous all-county concerts. I went on to do both concert and marching band in high school, playing both the flute and the piccolo. I became Flute section leader and field commander within my first two years. I also conducted a concert performance of Greensleeves with the whole band. I've played for weddings and funerals during and after my college career and right now my passion is teaching and helping students build their skills.
METHODS USED
The most important part is making sure the student has fun, that's what kept me interested in learning and motivated to get better. I start with getting the student comfortable with the flute, putting it together, having correct posture and breathing. Hal Leonard's Essential Elements is truly a great starting book that covers the basic fundamentals. I will then move into solo pieces and strengthening their technique. For students who are more advanced, my main goal is sight reading and getting them more comfortable with their required sheet music.
LESSON STYLE
The most important aspect of giving lessons is the student. Setting realistic goals and being patient while they learn the instrument and get comfortable reading sheet music is important. Praise and recognition as well as critique and constructive criticism are also important factors to ensure students practice and work to get better. Acknowledging the students interests and finding out what inspires them allows me to build their lessons in a way that's fun for them and encourages them to want to stick to their lessons. A first lesson for someone who has not played before will be focused on breathing, making a sound, assembling and disassembling the flute, posture and getting comfortable with the instrument. I will also do a quick 10 minute introduction to reading music and more music theory. I am also comfortable giving book and flute buying recommendations if needed.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
