Overview:
Besides being a concert violinist, I am a passionate and motivated violin teacher who enjoys sharing my love of music with students. I moved to the United States in 2013 as I got a scholarship to complete my music studies at Monmouth College. I have been performing all over the United States. I have recently performed a full recital at the Kennedy Center and was honored at the White House and selected as a Champion of Change for World Refugee. I performed and spoke at the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, MIT, Brooking Institute, Pentagon Conference, United Nations (Geneva and NYC), Arab American Institute, Georgetown University, George Washington University, Aspen Ideas Festival, Points of Light, International Rescue Committee, UNHCR, CARE, Harvard University, King's College Chapel (Cambridge), Blair Academy, Carnegie Mellon University, The Barbican Center (London), Beyond Boarder International Festival (Scotland), Hong Kong, Netherlands and many others.
EXPERIENCE
My teaching experience dates back to the time that I was in Syria, as I was employed as a full time Violin Teacher at the Arabic Institute of Music in Aleppo. I taught there for five years. The ages of my students are 8-17. I have found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the instrument and motivate them to practice and absorb. If a student is not having fun in their lessons, then I am not doing my job! My students are encouraged to perform in public and enter competitions, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. I am always looking to bring on new students of all ages!
METHODS USED
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Suzuki. Once the student has progressed to have a gasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lesson engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I believe that learning music has to be an enjoyable process so students can be inspired to practice and excel at playing their violin.
LESSON STYLE
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing on of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, It is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. My students are soloists, chamber music players and orchestra members.
