MM, Mikhail Glinka State Conservatory of Music, Novosibirsk, Russia, Music Performance and Education
BM, V. Shebalin Music College, Omsk, Russia, Vocals and Piano
I am a native of Russia. In 2001 I moved to the United States. In 2005 I became a US citizen. I studied music for seven years to earn my Bachelor of Arts degree in vocals and piano. I studied six more years in conservatory to obtain my Masters degrees in music performance and education. I love to teach and to see my students progress in their musical studies. I enjoy communicating with my students and their parents, if applicable. I enjoy teaching children, but I have experience with students of all ages. I am a creative person and I love to nurture talent in my students.
I have more than 20 years of experience teaching music, beginning after I obtained my Bachelors degree. In addition to teaching music performance, I can also teach music history and theory, solfeggio, ear training, and rhythmic training. While attending conservatory I was invited to join the Novosibirsk State Opera, where I sang as an opera soloist for eight years. With my opera company I travelled to Germany, Bulgaria and Yugoslavia for performances. I also have experience performing recitals. I have sung in many languages, including Russian, Italian, French, German, Latin, Spanish and English. I have experience teaching students of all ages and levels. I have helped students prepare for competitions and auditions.
I have studied many teaching methods, including Orff, Suzuki, the Russian music school. Essential to the Russian music school of piano method are touch, tone and expressiveness. When playing piano, posture, hand position and other fundamentals are very important. I use elements of all of these methods, tailored to the needs and abilities of my individual students. In vocal lessons, my method is based on breath control and learning to sing a musical piece the way the composer intended, emotionally and expressively. I believe every person has some musical talent. My job is to identify that talent and develop it as fully as possible.
I am classically trained in piano and vocals, but I can teach many other styles. I believe that when a serious teacher interacts with a creative, ambitious student the musical results can be magical. The most effective lessons are one on one between the teacher and student. I like to provide both a fun learning experience and results. The study of music can provide long-term pleasure and accomplishment. I recommend my students practice at least 20 minutes per day to develop their abilities. Commitment to study and sound technique combined with fun and imagination is my philosophy and mission.
