"My greatest award in teaching, is the positive impact on students."
"Mark has an easy-going approach with his students, allowing them to pursue specific areas of interest while ensuring that they receive the necessary fundamental instruction. For my son, that means getting to play classical and jazz pieces that he loves in addition to his scales and other theory exercises. Mark isn’t tied to a rigid methodology and can easily handle a student like my son who is prone to distraction and can be difficult for some teachers to work with. My son enjoys Mark’s sense of humor, and has even come to appreciate his attempts to stump him with questions about key signatures and other music theory trivia. He looks forward to his lesson time each week, which is so important when you have a young student who can easily become bored with practice time and lose interest in music. At audition time for the jazz ensemble this year, they beat out students with a year’s more experience, and are two of only three alto saxophones who made the cut. Their success is the best reference I can give in recommendation of Mark Lohman and his musical instruction.” E. Griffitt – Blue Springs, MO
“My daughter, Kaylan, decided at the end of fifth grade to play clarinet in middle school band. Summer band camp was starting in June and my daughter was a little nervous about not knowing anything about the clarinet. Our first lesson with Mark went very well and each lesson after the sound only got better. Kaylan is now playing clarinet for the Grain Valley Wind ensemble, she was the only freshman chosen to play in the ensemble this year. She also takes alto saxophone lessons from Mark. After only playing the saxophone for less than 3 months, she auditioned for the 8th grade jazz band and was chosen for one of two alto sax positions. She also played several saxophone solos during her time in 8th grade jazz band in front of fairly large audiences. My intention is not to brag about the achievements of my youngest daughter, but to highlight what I feel is an accomplishment of Mark Lohman’s teaching ability. He makes learning to play the instrument fun and encourages the student to not give up. I would definitely recommend Mr. Mark Lohman for private instrumental lessons. Especially after having to take lessons from another instructor for 3 months because of scheduling conflicts this fall, my daughter is so glad to be back with her favorite instructor.” K.
