Overview:
I have been in love with the flute for over 20 years. I studied flute performance at the University of Kentucky under Gordon Cole. I have taught numerous school age children but welcome adult students as well. I have done free lance work with the Lexington Ballet Theatre Orchestra as well as other professional gigs. I currently perform regualarly at New Testament Christian Church.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching the flute while at the University of Kentucky as an assistant to my professor Gordon Cole in his flute methods class to music educators. Since then, I have been teaching private lessons to middle and high school students. I do welcome beginners as well as adult students. I believe that teaching students how to practice is essential to their success. After reading numerous books and treatises on the art of practicing and the art of the flute, I feel I have an educated and practical approach to learning the flute. Above all else, I find the journey that one goes through in achieving in the realm of flute playing must be one that is led by the love of music. I do love music.
METHODS USED
I use the standard teaching methods for flute such as the Taffanel and Gaubert "Daily exercises for flute." I am also very serious about using the Moyse technique and sound books such as "Tone delevopment through interpretation." I believe these method books are essential in playing the flute.
LESSON STYLE
Because music and the flute is a constant art of improving, I find it beneficial to record students so they can hear themselves as others do. Having recordings of a student also allows them to remember where they started and where they have grown to. I find that positive reinforcement of all elements of flute playing are essential. Very importantly, I encourage students to experiment with their flute in practice and in making music.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
