My name is MaryAnn and my home studio is located in the SE Salem area. I offer , in your home lessons, video lessons, and lessons in my home studio. Lessons are individually designed for my students learning style and goals. I like to keep lessons fun, challenging and rewarding. I have over fifteen years of teaching experience. Teaching both private and classroom style lessons. Helping students prepare for auditions, concerts, recitals names only a few ways I have worked with students and families to achieve their goals.
My teaching experience started with a marching percussion section for a competitive drum and bugle corp located here in the Salem area. After a break in my teaching career, fifteen years ago I resumed teaching both private and classroom lessons. My classroom experience includes a public middle school band class along with thirteen years with a private Christian school. Throughout the last fifteen years I have also taught in home lessons, video lessons and lessons from my private studio. Setting up a good starting foundation is fundamental for each student regardless of age or experience. Consistent productive practice is the key to success. My goal is to encourage, motivate and help each student be the best musician they can be.
For beginning students who are children, I like to start with Piano Adventures by Nancy and Randall Faber. In addition to the method books to introduce music theory I incorporate musical games and flash cards. Keeping lessons fun and stimulating for young students I believe is vital to their growth. For older and more experienced students, I like to personalize my lessons to what the student is interested in while keeping lessons challenging and enjoyable at the same time. Helping them pick out level appropriate repertoire for concerts and recitals keeps the student interested and engaged.
My biggest joy is helping my students develop a passion for music and performing. Opening up the world of music to a student and seeing their progress over time is priceless. It is important that each student progress at their own pace. Setting goals for each lesson, and encouraging each student helps to fuel desire, interest and progress. By trying to find what inspires each student, I can successfully design my lesson plans to their wants, needs and personal goals. A job well done is when the face of a student beams with pride when they accomplish their goals.
