I am a passionate certified teacher who loves working with students of all ages. I have had the privilege to travel internationally with different groups sharing my love of music with the world. Several of my students were given the opportunity to perform in Boston, Philadelphia, and New York (Carnegie Hall) with their youth orchestras. Many of my students have been first chair in their school orchestras and have placed very high in competitions. I am excited to pass my love of music on to the future generations.
I began teaching music in my college days. I was a music director in the public schools. I have been consistently teaching music in my home studio for the past 11 years. I am passionate about being a teacher and teaching students of all ages. I enjoy teaching classical music because it is a firm foundation for all other genres of music. If one can play classical, they can play anything. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and perform at music recitals, but most importantly, I encourage my students to have fun!
For violin I usually use Suzuki Method and will introduce etudes like Wohlfahrt or Kreutzer. I also have fun with Christmas music, pop and fiddle. If they are young children aged 4-6, I will use the "I Can Read Music" by Joanne Martin. For guitar I use a variety of different classical method and etude books. In addition, I will introduce different genres according to what each student wants to learn, for example, rock, pop, worship, etc. I have fun teaching music theory in the form of games as well.
Every student has a different learning style and learns at their own pace. I myself am a tactile kinesthetic learner and tend to teach this way. For example, I enjoy using colored pencils to highlight articulation and dynamics. If a student is younger, I use stickers to help students keep track of where they are in the piece. I tailor my instruction to what each of my students needs and want to learn. It is important for me to incorporate a positive learning environment so my students will feel confident in learning.

Very understanding and caring teacher! I’ve been with Ms. Mary for several years and have progressed greatly as musician. So happy to have found her!
I already had prior music experience, but was interested in learning violin, she helped provide meaningful exercises and feedback that I don’t think I could have found elsewhere.
