Overview:
Hello there! My name is Matt, I am a impassioned drummer and musician from Philadelphia, PA. I am primarily self-taught but have obviously learned a ton from some of the greatest drummers and musicians on the earth. Drums have provided me with some of the most positive experiences in my life. They have given me joy, meaning, and freedom; which I hope to share with you. I have been playing since I was 16 years old and am focused on continual personal growth and expanding opportunities. I am grateful to be given the opportunity to guide you on your journey in music and to help you achieve your musical goals.
EXPERIENCE
I have always enjoyed the art of teaching. I find it personally rewarding because when you effectively teach something to someone, you simultaneously learn something yourself. Speaking from experience with my current students, there are pleasant challenges in teaching, like discovering what works and what doesn't with a particular student. Trial and error, positive reinforcement, witnessing progress. Teaching even allows me to express myself creatively because I get to find the best way to explain or communicate a concept. I have always enjoyed teaching others in any task.
METHODS USED
I try to cater my methods to the individual students goals and personality, however ultimately utilizing the same materials. Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone is a great tool for drummers. It offers simple, effective patterns for developing technique, skill, and vocabulary. It can be used intensively or casually as we borrow concepts and patterns to work with. Rudiments are the foundation of quality drumming and they can be developed using this book as well. It is an essential book for the established drummer, so I seek to use it with every student.
LESSON STYLE
Whatever I am teaching someone, I aim to present the material in the most interesting/fun way possible. I teach with authentic enthusiasm because of the joy that teaching provides. I am pretty easy going when it comes to teaching because it conveys patient, positive vibes. I don't want my to students to be afraid to make mistakes; something that happens when you take a strict, authoritarian approach. Rather, I prefer to covet a positive, free, fun learning environment. I am always conscious of how my students react to what I am teaching them and eagerly interpret verbal/non-verbal feedback as to make the lesson a better experience for both of us.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
