ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:

BM, LIU Post, Music Education MA, Hofstra University, Music Education

Awards:

2010 - LIU Post Certificate of Distinction in Music Theory.

Overview:
I am a young and passionate percussionist who loves being involved in music performance and education. I received my Bachelor of Music in Music Education from LIU Post in 2013, and will be finished my Master of Arts in Music Education from Hofstra University in 2017. I have had many great performance opportunities that include two performances in Carnegie Hall and other smaller venues around the country. My goal is to teach students of any age to appreciate music as well as to experience the feeling and passion of music.
EXPERIENCE
Throughout the years, starting back in college, I have had many wonderful performance opportunities. I have performed in Carnegie Hall in 2011 and 2012 with the LIU Post Wind Symphony and the LIU Post Chorus. I have also taken my performance from the classical world to the modern era being involved in the DCA Drum and Bugle Corps, The Long Island Sunrises in 2013, and the WGI Indoor Percussion Ensemble called Rage in 2006 and 2012. Being in these marching arts activities allowed me to begin teaching and instructing various marching bands on Long Island, including the Division Avenue High School Competitive Marching band in Levittown, as the front ensemble instructor and arranger, and Longwood High School in Middle Island, as the drumline instructor and arranger.
METHODS USED
For beginning students, I will start off with some basic rhythm sheets that I have created, and begin to asses the competency and understanding of basic rhythm. I firmly believe for any instrument that everyone needs a strong foundation of rhythm in order to progress into more advanced levels of playing and reading. At this point, I will begin to use Alfred’s Drum Method Books 1 and 2 interchangeably, eventually leading to Podemski’s Standard Snare Drum Method at the advanced level along with Rolls Rolls Rolls. For mallet percussion, I start of with teaching scales, both major and its natural minor or relative minor scale. ( C major and a minor, Bb and gm etc.) From there I move into the Learn to Play the Keyboard Percussion method book.
LESSON STYLE
I firmly believe that no student is "too young" to learn about more advanced music and techniques. With that being said, I will also push my students to move to the next level. I set very attainable goals that all students of any age can reach, while always adding a little more. Again, this is all related to the students understanding of rhythm and their relationships to each other. No matter the instrument, I always look for the new and "cool" music and teaching styles to keep up with the rapidly changing world.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
