Overview:
I am a guitarist/bassist originally from the South Shore of Massachusetts. In 2011, I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a degree in Professional Music. As a musician I have toured all through the east coast and have traveled west all the way to Montana. As a guitarist I strive to be creative through improvisation and draw inspiration from many different artists. These are ranging from The Beatles to Phish to Radiohead and everything in between. As a bassist my concept is to have a deep understanding of the fundamentals of the role of the instrument. While at the same time continuously explore different territory and bend/break the traditional rules of bass. I have been a part of several local bands which have toured the US and continue to play with my current band.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching bass and guitar for 10+ years. Even in high school I had several students part time. For me, spreading my passion and love for music to others has been a source of great joy. In the last several years I continue to have a small roster of private students while I am actively gigging and rehearsing for projects. I find that meeting new students and getting to know their goals as a musicians is incredibly inspiring. I keep my lessons light and fun and I always utilize my sense of humor to keep students engaged. My goal is to help my students learn their insturments and also have fun making music together.
METHODS USED
My curriculum is entirely driven by the students needs. I don't believe that one blanket method works for all individuals. Therefore, I spend the early lessons getting to know the student and designing the layout for our lessons moving forward. There are definitely certain books that I have used to assist with teaching. These books are dependant on the level of the student. Some of these books are Ted Green's "Chord Chemistry", "Rythms Complete" by Bugs Bower, and the Hal Leonard guitar method books. For young students or beginners, I will stick to a more formal book instruction paired with learning simple melodies and chords from songs that they enjoy. For more advanced students the material will be driven by their needs. I will work with the students to assist them with learning the music that they want to play and get them up and running with their favorite music.
LESSON STYLE
The teaching style that I use is to get to know my students and keep a fun and engaging atmosphere. I try to convey that the goal of learning an instrument is to play music, so I always save time for playing songs or jamming together. I always found that my best teachers were kind and lighthearted individuals that understood my needs. I try to be the same for my students. Through encouragement and recongnition of progress I keep students excited for their next lesson rather than being afraid of what could otherwise be a boring or intimidating experience.
